Malaria Profile

Malaria Profile

Price: ₹1800 ₹1500

Early detection is critical in managing tropical fevers. The Malaria Profile at CC Saha Medi Centre is a targeted screening designed to identify the presence of the malaria parasite and assess the patient’s physiological response to the infection.

What it is

An enzyme test.

When is it needed?

Before starting certain anti-malarial drugs (like Primaquine).

What can be detected from the test?

G6PD deficiency, which can cause severe reactions to specific malaria medications.

What it is

Measures oxygen-carrying protein in the blood.

When is it needed?

To check for anemia caused by red blood cell destruction.

What can be detected from the test?

Severity of blood loss/anemia due to the parasite.

What it is

Total and Differential Count of White Blood Cells.

When is it needed?

To assess the body’s immune response.

What can be detected from the test?

Signs of infection, inflammation, or secondary bacterial issues.

What it is

Microscopic examination (Smear) of blood.

When is it needed?

To confirm the physical presence of the parasite.

What can be detected from the test?

The specific species of malaria (e.g., P. vivax or P. falciparum).

What it is

A rapid diagnostic test (RDT).

When is it needed?

For immediate results when high fever is present.

What can be detected from the test?

Specific proteins (antigens) produced by the malaria parasite.

Package Preparation and likely Test Chronology

To ensure the highest accuracy of your reports at CC Saha MediCentre, please follow these standard protocols:
1. Pre-Test Preparation
Fasting: No fasting is required. This test can be conducted at any time of the day.
Timing: It is often recommended to collect the sample during a fever spike, as the concentration of parasites in the peripheral blood is typically higher at that time.
Travel History: Please inform the technician if you have recently traveled to malaria-endemic zones outside of Kolkata.
2. Test Chronology
Symptom Check: The patient provides a blood sample, preferably during or immediately after a fever episode.
Dual Approach: We perform both a Rapid Antigen Test (for quick screening) and a Peripheral Blood Smear (for microscopic confirmation).
G6PD Screening: This is processed simultaneously to ensure the treating physician can safely prescribe the necessary medication without delay.
Reporting: Due to the urgent nature of fever diagnostics, reports are usually ready within 3 to 5 hours.
3. Additional Information
Critical Accuracy: Our lab uses high-definition microscopy to detect low parasite density that rapid tests might occasionally miss.
Medication Safety: The G6PD component is a vital safety check unique to this profile, preventing drug-induced hemolytic anemia.
Immediate Care: High-grade fever with chills should not be ignored. Contact CC Saha Medi Centre immediately for emergency home collection or walk-in testing.
